Tom McCaffrey Gold-Platinumsmith-Jeweler

My early training began in Dublin, Ireland where I apprenticed as a silversmith in the workshop of Fergus O'Farrell. I was privileged to work at reproducing ancient pieces from The National Museum. Immediately, I was fascinated by the fact that the Celts were able to produce such wonderful metalwork over 2,500 years ago using the basic technologies of fire, hammer, file, punch, pitch, leather, wood. I try to produce works which echo both the boldness and delicacy of those ancient masters. Modern technology has little appeal to me, especially where mass production of jewelry is concerned. I have had a shop in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago since 1973.
